Flora of the Ankarana Special Reserve
At least three hundred thirty (330) species in seventy seven (77) families. Most trees carry deciduous leaves and many flower from September to November.
How to get there
• From Antananarivo: On RN4 to Ambondromamy (410Km), turn right on the RN6 until Ambilobe (609Km),
continue to the village of Mahamasina (entrance to the Park) located 29 km from Antsiranana.
• From Antsiranana: on RN6 to 108 km
• From Ankify: take the RN6 to Ambalavelona (Ambanja) for 15 km and continue to Mahamasina for 129 km through Ambilobe.
• From Mahajanga: On RN4 to Ambondromamy, then the RN6

Historical
Ankarana would have been used as a refuge by the Antakarana people. An Ankarana cave served as a tomb for the Antakarana Kings.
